Going Neon and Fruity Colors for Sping and Summer 2012

Most designers seemed eager to test the waters of brilliant neon colors for summer and spring 2012. One such designer is Nanette Lepore who in contrast had gone all-white last season. If her color palette was spare then, now it IS clearly ablaze with color! Down the runway traipsed outfits in neon yellow, tangerine, hot pink and electric blue, either singly or in preposterous combinations we’d think wouldn’t work, but Lepore’s discerning eye would combine in undaunted fashion. Her seasoned eye combined the brazen colors with simple feminine silhouettes, expertly tipping her hat to the balance of fashion.
A favorite of mine is this striking tangerine dress topped by a delicate sea-foam-green lacy cover-up. Matched with tangerine wedges with bright yellow soles, this outfit is a colorfully delicious ode to the advent of spring, simply bursting with juicy happiness! The delightful secret to this amazing confection of an outfit is in the classic cut which could have been staid but is not, due to the super bright colors that were a shade shy of garish.
The day glow effervescence of Lepore’s collection is always set off by a milder color. Lepore is always aware that something must create balance between vibrancy and equanimity. In this case (her spring 2012 collection), where her color palette pushes fashionistas over the color precipice, she reels them in with calmer color pairing and classic cuts. In the dress featured next, Lepore contrasts and calms a fiery tangerine with airy lavender, and ruffled lace. She gives the dress a feminine form with an eye-popping belt snugly cinching the waist.

This brilliant egg-yolk-yellow dress would have been a disaster if the silhouette were busier. But Lepore displayed extreme wisdom and restraint when she designed a cap-sleeved, A-line dress with sexy overlapping front slit and delicate Sabrina neckline to tame the full-on color. The strappy yellow platforms with bow detail also give the outfit a sense of playful whimsy. Which I may venture to guess is Lepore’s spring theme.

Neon yellow and day glow tangerine are admittedly a bit much on the eyes and probably too much for one wearer. That is if you’re not wearing a design by Nanette Lepore. The cut-out details, the slim silhouette, soft A-line skirt as well as appropriate on the knee hemline makes the color extremely wearable. This outfit is a fresh take on lounging dresses usually seen in women strolling around the French Riviera.

- This charming librarian dress with bosom details and hem ruffles is given a day glow treatment in sunny yellow, and just like that, the mood changes. Of course, this Lepore creation is not just any old librarian dress. The secret of any Lepore dress is in the details that you can hardly see. But, they’re there. And if you’re astute enough, you’d know that the cut is perfect, the details complement the wearer’s every move, and the color palette is meant to shock, albeit, pleasantly.
