Top 10 Drugstore Make-up That Works just as Well as Luxury Brands

Written by Paula Gacad on Friday, 13 July 2012. Posted in Beauty, Editor's Spotlight

So you want to look pretty, glamorous and chic but you’re on a tight budget? Fret not, there are loads of drugstore products that work in the same way as high-end cosmetics but won’t burn a hole in your pocket. If you think that drugstore makeup isn’t as updated and as good as the ones used by professional makeup artists, think twice. I know a lot of pro-makeup artists who swear by these products, and at the same time use them on their clients face. I’ve gathered drugstore products and luxury brand cosmetics along with an honest to goodness review.
Lipstick

Pink

MAC’s Pink Nouveau is a favorite among makeup lovers as well as celebrities.

Description: A pink lipstick with blue undertones that will give you Barbie Doll lips. Retails for $14.50

NYX Summer Breeze, a bright pink shade with blue undertones, gives you a creamy texture on the lips. Retails for $3.99
Description:

NARS Schiap and NYX Louisiana, both have a gorgeous bright hot-pink shade, although NARS Schiap is a bit darker than NYX Lousiana. Over all they give you the brightest and most beautiful smile. However, NYX is way cheaper than NARS.

Red

Every girl with a glamorous and classic taste would love a touch of red on her lips like that of Marilyn Monroe’s. Chanel’s Allure Lover has a perfect shade of red with satin finish. MAC’s Russian Red got a lot of raves for its beautiful shade of red with matte finish. Now, drugstore products like Revlon and Elf have the same shade of red although ELF is cheaper than Revlon. Both products will give you the same classic red lips.

Eyeshadow

Maybelline’s quad eye shadow is a better alternative for Dior’s quad eye shadow. Two shades of violet, black, and white will give you a lovely midnight purple smoky eyes.

Foundation

Maybelline’s Super Stay 24 Hour Foundation can rival high-end brand Chanel’s Pro Lumiere Foundation at just a fraction of the price. If you’re in search of a drugstore foundation that gives oily face a clean matte- finish then this product might work well on you. It lasts all day and gives enough coverage so you won’t need extra dollars to pay for expensive foundation.

Concealer

Although Lise Watier’s concealer wheel can be a bit pricey for a drugstore cosmetic, it works wonders on uneven skin tones and skin imperfections. But if you’re looking for a much cheaper product which works as well as Lise Watier’s concealer wheel, then N.Y.C. concealer is definitely a great alternative.

Face Primer

Face Primers are used before applying foundation to help foundations stay put longer and prevent oily shine. Makeup Forever’s HD primer has good reviews but Loreal’s Studio Secrets Perfecting cream base works just as well, but is much easier on the pocket.

Eye Shadow Primer

Eye Shadow primer is specifically used for the eyelids, to prep up the eyes. It covers the flaws and will keep the color of the eye shadow vibrant. Urban Decay’s primer potion is much raved about but if you’re on a tight budget, then Loreal’s De-Crease Primer will make it work.

EyeLiner

Some prefer expensive or high-end brands when purchasing eyeliners as they promise defined eyes, and are usually smudge-proof, however, Rimmel Kohl Eyeliner also promises smudge-proof and defined eyes, just like MAC’s Smolder Kohl Eyeliner.

Mascara

I’ve heard good reviews about this product. For a very cheap price, it curls, volumizes, and defines the lashes. High-end brands such as Lancome’s Oscillation Mascara or Bobbi Brown’s Waterproof and Lengthening Mascara make great mascaras, but then Great Lash won’t hurt your piggy bank, and works just as fine.
